On the 20th January, Year 11 welcomed the Box Clever Theatre Company to Dunottar. Three actors took different roles to perform a 60-minute long, action-packed adaptation of ‘Macbeth’.
The play is an examined text for GCSE English literature, and the aim of the performance was to help students to consolidate their knowledge of the characters, plot and themes—while at the same time learning key quotations for their exam.
Year 11 student Lauren commented: “I enjoyed the exaggerated style of acting, as it helped me to memorise the quotes better and made it engaging to watch.”
James, also in Year 11, enjoyed the ‘dynamic lighting’ the most. He said: “The coloured sticks contributed towards building a tense atmosphere that matched the play. They turned red to mirror the vast amount of blood from the murder, emphasising why it could not be washed from Macbeth’s hands—a motif of guilt.”
Head of English, Kerry Lewis, said: “The whole year group enjoyed the performance so much that I’ve already contacted the company about coming back next year!”
