Dunottar Students Celebrate Outstanding A-level Success

14th August 25

The Class of 2025 has set a high bar. Today’s A-level results confirm Dunottar’s reputation for academic excellence and for a learning culture that challenges, inspires and celebrates every student.

Our Sixth Form leavers have secured outstanding results across this mixed ability cohort, with 72% of all grades awarded at A*– B, a record since Mr Mark Tottman became Headmaster, and 37% attaining the top A*- A grades. Impressively, 96% of our students will be attending their first-choice university this September.

Students have successfully gained places at leading Russell Group universities, including Birmingham, Exeter, Warwick and Bristol, where they will study a range of courses, including Medicine, History, Politics and Biology.

Headmaster, Mr Mark Tottman, said: “This year’s A-level cohort was the first I recruited to Dunottar in 2018, joining at a time of change and possibility when the school was rebuilding and redefining itself. What stands out most is not just their grades, but the young adults they have become – curious, principled and reflective. They have modelled leadership that is thoughtful, authentic and generous. They have shown the courage to take risks in the classroom and beyond, not because they were sure of the outcome, but because they believed in the process. That courage will carry them far. They leave Dunottar with the skills, resilience and character to thrive in whatever path they choose next.”

These results build on Dunottar’s exceptional rating from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in May 2024, which praised the school’s strong academic outcomes, high-quality teaching and outstanding pastoral care. Inspectors highlighted how Dunottar fosters a culture in which students flourish as individuals and as part of a vibrant, forward-looking community.

Will, whose outstanding results have earned him a place to study Biology at Bristol said: “Dunottar has given me the confidence to aim high and the support to achieve my goals. I’ve been encouraged to explore my interests, develop my skills and take on challenges I never thought I could. I’m leaving with fantastic memories, lifelong friends and a real excitement for the future.”

True to our Warrior Learning ethos, our leavers have excelled far beyond the classroom. Many have achieved success in sport, music and drama productions, taken on leadership roles such as Heads of School, prefects and sports ambassadors, completed the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, raised thousands for charity and represented the school in competitions at regional and national level.

As our newest alumni, this year’s leavers take with them not only excellent qualifications but also the confidence, creativity and resilience that will serve them well in the years ahead. Dunottar remains committed to ensuring every student is known, supported and challenged to be the very best version of themselves – a commitment clearly reflected in this year’s A-level success.
