Funny Faces inspired by an iconic Italian artist

8th March 21

This January we launched our annual ‘Funny Faces’ art competition, inviting Year 5 pupils from local primary schools to submit their own ‘Funny Face’, inspired by the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo.

Pupils were encouraged to be as creative as possibleutilising different kinds of objects, in homage to the Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and books.

Over 30 local children entered this competition, impressing the judges with their creativity and flair, using a range of materials from sweets, to coins, pompoms, crayons and fabric to make some truly inspired original artworks.

“This was another fantastic year for entries to our funny Faces competition. It never ceases to amaze me how creative young people are and the care and attention to detail in all the entries shows real imagination and skill. As always, it was very hard judging this competition because of the standard of the entries”.

Mrs Horn – Head of Art.
