Dunottar Under 16s Embark on Midlands Rugby Tour

5th November 22

During October half term, our under 16s boys rugby team embarked on Dunottar’s first rugby tour to the Midlands.

The trip began with some team building fun in the form of ten pin bowling and Lazer Quest, fuelled by a mountain of pizza and nachos. The squad then headed to Lichfield for their first match. Falling behind initially, there was no panic from our players, showing independence and tenacity as a team, they went back to their game plan and executed beautifully. Drawing level by half time, the atmosphere grew increasingly tense as Lichfield RFC’s supporters sensed the change in momentum. Two interception tries took Dunottar into the lead, and we were rewarded with a win.

On Saturday, the boys visited Northampton Saints at their Franklin’s Gardens stadium, for a pro training session and a tour. The squad got an insight into the world of Premiership Rugby. They were introduced to the rituals that the Saints’ team follow and the importance of these in building a sense of purpose and team spirit. The Dunottar team then spent time working through drills with the community coaching team and had the honour of taking the flag on to the pitch before kick-off. After a thrilling match we returned to our base for a team meal.

Sunday morning took the squad to Derby RFC for a match on their 3G pitch, where the boys displayed some excellent rugby (and of course they won)!

It was a pleasure to see how much the team enjoyed the tour and they can be proud to have gone unbeaten – well done!
