Dunottar School Celebrates A-Level Success

14th August 20

Dunottar School pupils have done themselves proud this year with their A-level results, despite these challenging, unprecedented times. These excellent results were achieved by the hard work of our mixed ability cohort and they highlight the benefits of Dunottar’s small teaching groups, tailored pathways and personalised support.

This year’s university-bound leavers have gained places to study challenging academic courses at many different Russell Group universities and other leading institutions, while others have been successful in going directly into employment.

Headmaster, Mr Mark Tottman, commented, ‘I am incredibly proud of our pupils’ achievements. This year’s excellent results reflect pupils’ continuous hard work and commitment throughout the duration of their courses and the dedication, flexibility and support of our teaching staff. Our results demonstrate the significant steps forward that our Sixth Form has taken academically in recent years, including at the top end of the spectrum. I am delighted that so many pupils achieved their academic goals. Every pupil gained their first or second choice university place, with over 80% of these getting their first choice. During their time in the Sixth Form, besides studying other additional courses such as Sports Leader and the EPQ, Dunottar pupils have made friendships for life, challenged themselves and reached outside their comfort zone. As Warrior Learners, they are now prepared to go out into the world, ready to make a difference.’

During lockdown and with A-level exams cancelled, Dunottar continued to support pupils by following a full school timetable via their school iPads – ensuring pupils remained engaged, active and connected to the Dunottar community. In addition, Dunottar’s impressive infrastructure and creativity enabled the delivery of university preparation courses, providing pupils with the key academic skills required to meet the demands of university study.

Mrs Nicky Jackson, Head of Sixth Form, said, ‘Our new state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre has provided students with an inspiring, modern, university-style working space. In addition to their superb academic achievements, students have played an important role in the school and wider Dunottar community – on the sports fields, as charity fundraisers and volunteers, on the stage, as Duke of Edinburgh participants and on our Leadership Programme.’
