Choir Sweeps the Board at Woking Festival

A choir from Dunottar performed at Woking Festival and delighted the judges so much that they won four trophies.

Dunottar Chamber Choir from Dunottar Reigate School for Girls received plenty of plaudits at Woking Music Festival on 12th November.

The talented teenagers were awarded the cup for the Under-19 School Choir and Church Choirs classes, both with distinctions. They were also commended in the Over 15 Chamber Choir category. Finally, the pupils’ performances impressed the judges so much that they won the Grace Wright Rose Bowl for the best School Choir in the entire competition.

The adjudicator, Ben Costello, praised the choir’s ‘very polished work’, their ‘savvy singing’ in It Don’t Mean A Thing, ‘a lovely intensity with the words’ in Shipshape by the Finnish composer Sallinen, and ‘very agile and effective’ singing of an arrangement of Miss Otis Regrets.

Choirmaster Charles Thompson commented: “This is a lovely group to work with!”
