Warrior Learning

At Dunottar we enable our pupils to achieve spectacular outcomes by encouraging them to exhibit the seven behaviours of 'warrior learners'; aspiration, creativity, tenacity, independence, curiosity, collaboration and inclusivity, preparing them for the fast paced and ever changing world we live in.

Time Capsule Competition 🌟

As part of our centenary celebrations, the English Department launched a creative writing competition, with the winning entries set to be preserved in a time capsule.

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 were challenged to either imagine what Dunottar might be like in 100 years’ time or write a letter to a future student. Their entries could be no longer than 100 words – one word for each year of the school’s history.

The competition attracted a fantastic range of imaginative and thought-provoking responses. Congratulations to our winners:
Year 7: Lucie
Year 8: Felix
Year 9: Aidan
Each winner received a £10 Amazon voucher.

The runners-up, whose entries will also be included in the time capsule, were:
Year 7: Poppy, Charlie, Sam
Year 8: Evie, Leo, Jack, George, Albi
Year 9: Henry, Anna, Katie, Henry, Leo

Ms Lewis, Head of English, said:

“Students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, and it was extremely difficult to shortlist entries. Their imaginative responses – some strikingly dystopian – were a pleasure to read. I hope that in a hundred years’ time, the world’s problems have been resolved!”

The competition has provided a unique opportunity for students to contribute to Dunottar’s history, leaving a lasting record of their ideas and aspirations for future generations to discover.
