Heads of School Welcome

As Dunottar’s new Heads of School representatives, we wanted to explain from a student’s point of view what life at Dunottar is like. Dunottar is not only a school where students are able to fulfil their potential, but it is also a school that encourages students to strive beyond. The inclusive environment at Dunottar allows everyone to feel comfortable in being their own person and to be accepted for that. Dunottar is a very integrated school where relationships are formed between the different year groups, whether that be through sport, drama productions or other shared interests or passions. “Family time’ – where pupils in the Sixth Form are partnered with our Year 7 pupils as part of a mentoring programme  – extends that integration.

The staff at Dunottar are friendly and approachable, with students able to seek help and advice over any concerns or worries. They encourage all students to strive for the best and reach their potential, providing help and support where required. This is done through promoting our Warrior Learner behaviours, such as curiosity, inclusivity and aspiration, to achieve the “Best in Everyone”.

There is a huge range of co-curricular activities on offer, whether it be performing in drama and music, sporting opportunities, trips away, and, of course, the huge range of lunchtime and after school clubs. From building your own spaceship in LEGO Robotics club, to beekeeping and rock climbing, there is something for everyone. The ever-popular Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme provides students with unforgettable and enriching experiences.

The sports department encourages participation across all sports and provides many amazing opportunities for students, using the brilliant sporting facilities on site or the excellent facilities at Old Reigations Rugby Club. At Dunottar, our main sports are Netball, Rugby, Lacrosse, Football, Cricket, Swimming and Athletics. Alongside the main sports, co-curricular clubs offer sports such as badminton, hockey, scuba diving and many others. The cricket nets in the sports hall have provided an excellent training environment, allowing students to really hone their skills. Playing sport at Dunottar allows individuals to develop their confidence, teamwork and determination.

We have had a truly amazing time at Dunottar, making unforgettable memories and building lifelong friendships.

Thank you for considering Dunottar for your child. We hope we have been able to provide an in-depth picture of our experience of life at Dunottar.

Take care,

Joseph and Lucy (Heads of School)
