Virtual Open Day

One of the best ways to find out more about life at Dunottar School is, of course, to visit us. Whilst we are unable to welcome large numbers of visitors on to the school site at present, we would like to invite you to discover Dunottar virtually via our Virtual Open Day. You can explore the school via the interactive map, hear from the Headmaster, Mark Tottman, read our Heads of School welcome and get an insight into school life through the eyes of our Year 7 pupils.

Our friendly Admissions team is on hand to guide you through the Admissions process and answer any questions you may have. Please call us on 01737 761945 or email admissions@dunottarschool.com

Heads of School Welcome

As Dunottar’s current Heads of School team, we wanted to give you an insight into life at Dunottar. Having come from different schools, the warm, welcoming environment of Dunottar struck us the first time we visited. As well as being a school, Dunottar is an inclusive and encouraging community and this unique ‘feel’ when we walked in for the first time is what made us choose the school. We have come to the end of our journeys at Dunottar and we can honestly say that we will forever be thankful for the opportunities that the school has given us. The staff work their hardest to create an accepting environment and to encourage us to reach our potential. This is reflected in the students, as we are encouraged to support and interact with other year groups – an example being the Sixth Form mentor programme for Year 7 creating one united community.

Everyone at Dunottar has something new and exciting to offer. Many have hidden talents and skills, and, as a result of Dunottar’s culture of finding the “Best in Everyone”, a platform is provided for these to flourish and be nurtured. The Warrior Learner traits of inclusivity and collaboration are embedded in our culture. Inclusivity relates closely to a ladder escalating to success. Sometimes, you have the upper hand and pull people up, and other times people help you progress on your own journey. Either way, it is only through a collaborative ethos and a genuine desire to level the playing field for all, that true inclusivity is achieved. Therefore, inclusivity is a mindset, which we all adopt in Dunottar and it is far from a simple ‘tick the box exercise’.

There are a huge range of co-curricular opportunities at Dunottar, whether that be performing in drama or music, the different sports that we play, trips away from home, lots of clubs from LEGO robotics to beekeeping, and our favourite, the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The sports staff encourage participation and provide new opportunities, using different sporting facilities both on and off-site with ease. We play lacrosse and rugby, netball and football, cricket and athletics plus many more. Playing team sports has developed our confidence and given us a drive to improve.

There are opportunities to visit places in the UK and abroad, such as Dorset, Wales, Rome and Berlin, to improve our learning, experience different cultures, grow friendships and have fun together!

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme provided an unforgettable and enriching experience. Completing the Gold Award earlier this year has provided so many happy memories, most notably everyone singing and laughing their way through the entire expedition.

This has been a fantastic time to be a student at Dunottar but there are obviously exciting times still to come.

Thank you for considering Dunottar for your child. We hope we have been able to paint a vivid picture of our experiences at Dunottar.

Take care,

Sharika  (Head of School), Joshua  (Deputy Head of School) and Louisa  (Deputy Head of School)
