While we would never understate the importance of traditional lessons, at Dunottar we are also mindful of the important lessons which are learnt away from the classroom and outside the curriculum.
The school years are a fantastic time to try out a wealth of different activities and we aim to give our pupils every opportunity possible to have interesting experiences, acquire skills, develop hobbies and, of course, to have fun! We want our pupils to find things they love and which give them a sense of belonging but we also want them to challenge themselves, to be adventurous and try new things.
We hold a Co-Curricular Fair at the start of the school year which allows pupils to find out about everything on offer at Dunottar so they can select those clubs that they would like to join. Clubs run in everything from 'Insanity Fitness' and 'Bushcraft Club' to 'Psychology Today' and 'Sing Out!' so that there really is something for everyone.
Trips, expeditions, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, charity and community links also provide students with opportunities to learn about their place in the wider community, other cultures and the world around them.
We create leadership roles at all age groups so that pupils can begin to develop leadership skills as they progress through school and these roles naturally become more significant in the Sixth Form years.
