Dunottar School Raises £240 for Red Nose Day

Year 7 – 13 students at Dunottar School have ditched their uniforms and donned their own clothes to support fundraising activities.

The pupils were inspired to contribute to Comic Relief following an assembly earlier in the week in which they learnt about the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC)’s East Africa Appeal. The appeal aims to support the relief effort in East Africa where 20 million people are facing the threat of starvation. Comic Relief will be donating at least £1 million to support the relief effort.

Head of art, Sam Emblem, who spoke to the pupils in assembly, commented: “I’d heard on the news that the drought on the east coast of Africa was going to be worse than in 1985. If not dealt with in the next month, the effects of the drought will be catastrophic.

“Earlier in the week, the pupils learnt about the postcode lottery,” she added, “and in geography, Year 7 have learnt about the conditions of living in a slum. We encourage the pupils to take an active role in fundraising.”
