We are passionate about sport at Dunottar and aim to instil a lifelong enthusiasm for sport and its many benefits during our pupils’ time at school.
Our games programme is tailored around the key educational values of promoting general and specific fitness, helping to give each pupil an active and balanced lifestyle, and providing more specific elements of strength, conditioning and skill at the elite end (Sports Scholarships are offered to those who show exceptional potential on entry in Year 7 and Year 12). Through sport, we teach the valuable lessons that can be learnt from winning and losing, both as an individual and as part of a team. Most importantly, we want pupils to enjoy their sport and to work hard at whatever level they choose to play.
We offer a wide range of sports and strive to provide opportunities for pupils at both elite and participatory levels. A high proportion of our pupils represent the school competitively at inter-school fixtures and many go on to represent their county, region and even their country in their chosen sports. The main boys’ sports are rugby and football, with netball and lacrosse for girls, and cricket for both girls and boys. Everyone has swimming lessons. Rounders, cross country, hockey, basketball, athletics and karate adds to the variety of sports on offer outside PE lessons.
We believe in having a strong coaching structure across the board and particularly invest in the lower years of the school to build for the future. The sports staff are highly qualified coaches and we employ a number of sports graduates to add their expertise in specific areas.
Dunottar has excellent on-site sports facilities including an indoor swimming pool, large purpose-built sports hall with 4 -lane cricket net system, training pitch and outdoor courts. A link with Old Reigatians Rugby Club provides full use of their facilities off-site for both rugby and lacrosse.
