Year 7 Admissions

Dates for Year 7 2025 Assessment Process

Registration Deadline for 2025 Entry 9am, 24th September 2024
Scholarship Deadline for 2025 Entry  9am, 24th September 2024

Our Year 7 assessments are designed for pupils to learn more about life at Dunottar and to enable us to begin to get to know your child and to help us assess their ability to fit into the Dunottar community.

Pupils will take part in our Warrior Learner Assessments, which involve a number of individual and group activities, allowing us to assess their creativity and how they work with other children.  No preparation for these activities is required. All pupils will also have a friendly, informal interview with a member of staff.

In addition, pupils will sit academic assessments in English, Mathematics and an online test covering: Verbal, Non-Verbal and numerical exercises.  In English and Mathematics the tests are based on the National Curriculum work that the pupils will have been doing in their current school.  No special tutoring is required beyond this.

Please contact our admissions team on 01737 761945 for further information regarding the admission process.

Visit Us

Year 4 & 5

The best way to find out more about how your son or daughter would benefit from a Dunottar education is to visit us on one of our Working Open Mornings. A Working Open Morning means the school is running as normal and you will see lessons in action during your visit. Visits start with a tour of our beautiful grounds and facilities guided by our Year 8 pupils, followed by a presentation from Mr Mark Tottman, Headmaster, our Deputy Head Academic, Mrs Janine Hislop and our Deputy Head Pastoral, Mr John Weiner in our fabulous Performing Arts Centre. We encourage you to bring your child with you to the Open Morning when they are in Year 4 or 5.

You may register your son or daughter at any time prior to the registration deadline of 24th September 2024 at 9am for Year 7 2025 entry, but encourage you to register in the Spring Term of Year 5 so that our child can attend our Taster Morning.

Taster Morning

Year 5 – Summer Term

Once your child is registered with us they will be invited to attend our Taster Morning. This event allows pupils to get a better feel for life at Dunottar, to meet some of our teachers, and get to know other children who will be sitting the entrance assessments.  During the morning, pupils take part in two activities, one set and one of their choice. There are lots of fun sessions to choose from including sports, cookery, Lego Robotics, art and more!

Scholarships

You may want to apply for your child to join our Scholarship Programme. Scholarships are available to pupils who demonstrate exceptional abilities in academics, music, drama, art and sport. These scholarships are more than just financial rewards; they represent our dedication to creating an aspirational environment where pupils can thrive and reach their full potential.
