Entrance Assessments

Year 7 Admissions: Entrance Examination Monday 7th January 2019 for September 2019 entry

Tests for Year 7 entry will be in English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning and take place in the January of the year of entry (i.e. January 2019 for September 2019 entry).  In English and Mathematics the tests are based on the National Curriculum work that the students will have been doing in their current school.  No special tutoring is required beyond this.

On the day of the tests, all pupils will have a friendly, informal interview with a member of staff.  There will be no academic content to this interview, but it will allow us to begin to get to know your child and to help us assess their ability to fit into the Dunottar community.  Pupils will also take part in a number of group activities to allow us to assess how they work with other children.  No preparation for these activities is required. Offers for Year 7 are made in late January.

Year 12 Admissions

Any student who wishes to join in Year 12 will be interviewed by a senior member of staff, will tour the school and, where possible, meet the Head of Sixth Form and the Heads of Departments of the subjects that the student wishes to study at A Level.

We will request references from the current school and candidates are normally required to achieve a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 5 to 9, with a grade 6 or above in the subjects they wish to study at A Level.
