A Levels
In the Sixth Form girls are able to identify and develop their own interests and strengths and to build on them by concentrating on the subjects they enjoy.
Most students take four subjects at AS level in the first year and three to four A levels in the Upper Sixth. We offer a choice of 20 different A-level courses and students are given plenty of advice on the best choices for them. Students are encouraged to choose subjects which they enjoy and are prepared to study in-depth. Universities, colleges and employers often welcome applicants who show a breadth of interests in their academic qualifications.
Teaching groups in the Sixth Form are smaller than those in the Senior School (typically 4-7 girls), giving students the opportunity to make much greater contributions. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own studies and learning but within a secure framework of support, encouragement and guidance from well-qualified teaching staff. We pride ourselves on preparing students for their public examinations and Dunottar has an excellent record of examination successes at A Level.
Alongside their A Level subjects all girls in the sixth form have an enrichment lesson where they are able to study different subjects in a non-examination led format. Some girls choose to use this time to take part in our active Community Service volunteering programme. The Upper Sixth follow a non-examined General Studies Programme to help prepare them for life after school. The programme is designed to extend and complement their academic studies and provides the opportunity to learn new skills. We also provide a varied programme from which Sixth Formers choose their options for their weekly Physical Education lessons.
