Junior School
Welcome to Dunottar Junior School.
Dunottar School is unique because it large enough to provide a full range of facilities and attract highly capable staff but small enough to retain the intimacy and personal touch essential to a child's development.
The Junior School is a warm stimulating and secure environment where our girls are able to prosper and grow. We work hard to establish and maintain a caring, supportive atmosphere in which girls feel confident to be themselves, to respect everyone in the community, to be proud of their achievements and to persevere when given a new challenge.
We strongly believe that our girls make the best progress when they feel happy, secure and valued, so we place great emphasis on pastoral care. Education should be a partnership between the teachers, parents and pupils, all working together to make sure that our girls receive the education and support they deserve.
Walking round the school you will be impressed by the calm, purposeful buzz of cheerful, motivated girls who are absorbed in their learning. Class sizes are small so that the girls get the support and attention they need. The Junior Department curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, including the Primary National Strategy. We then enhance this to meet the needs of the girls. It is challenging, and designed to give a balanced educational experience covering academic and creative subjects. Most importantly school should be fun.
Our spacious buildings combined with wonderful grounds and facilities mean our girls have exceptional opportunities to participate in many sporting and extracurricular activities.
Learning outside the classroom occurs in many subjects to stimulate curious minds and expand the girls’ existing knowledge.
If we want today’s girls to be tomorrow’s leaders we have to give them a firm educational basis and the skills necessary to be successful in whatever they choose. We look forward to welcoming you to our school so that you can experience the special atmosphere for yourself.
