Religious Studies
Key Stage Three
Religious Studies prepares the girls to understand the world in which we live. Belief leads to action, so in Key Stage Three we reveal the teachings of the six major world faiths, with a focus on the cultural settings. A range of teaching methods is employed, including PowerPoint presentations, videos and dramatic recreations of classical literature. Each year, approximately half the time is spent studying aspects of Christianity. Year 7 visit Rochester Cathedral and Year 8 the Victoria and Albert Museum.
GCSE
At Dunottar, Religious Studies GCSE is taken by choice. The background faith is Christianity and we examine festivals, marriage, baptism, while Ethics covers issues about surrogacy, saviour siblings, global issues and justice.
A Level Philosophy and Ethics (Edexcel)
In the Sixth Form the huge questions about life are asked. Is there a creator at work in the universe? What laws should we follow? These questions are applied to our daily life hence this course has relevance for many professions, such as medicine, law and human resources. We have a detailed study of Freud and Jung. There is a written examination paper offering a choice of three questions on the Philosophy of Religion and Religious Ethics.
At A2 we extend our philosophical viewpoint and we analyse an anthology of relevant literature.
