Speech and Drama

Speech and Drama lessons are available to all girls in the Junior School within the timetable.

In the Nursery and Reception classes, girls follow an introductory programme with the emphasis on learning through fun and movement games. From Year 1 onwards they follow the London Academy of Music and Drama Arts (LAMDA) specification for graded exams. To begin with the focus is on the Speaking of Verse and Prose. From Year 3 onwards we also introduce the Acting examinations, which can be undertaken as solo, pair or group exams. In the Senior School, classes are taken in pupils’ own time, usually at lunchtime or after school. Pupils continue to prepare for the Speaking of Verse and Prose or the Acting examinations, but also have the opportunity to undertake the Reading for Performance, Devised Performance or Recital examinations. Pupils from Year 9 onwards can prepare for the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

There are two examination sessions in the spring and the summer and everyone has the opportunity to showcase their work to fellow pupils and at least once during the year to present their work to parents. Pupils also enter classes at local music and drama festivals.

Classes are taught by Teresa Munro, who has a wealth of teaching experience in drama and theatre and a considerable range of expertise in performance direction and production.
