Business & Economics

The Edexcel Specification for the joint study of Economics and Business Studies is offered to students in the Sixth Form. The course has excellent coverage of key issues from both areas and provides a good grounding for a range of university courses and careers.

The Business and Economics topics taught in the course are fully integrated and lead to the students gaining a very clear understanding of not only the individual concepts but also of how they are linked. We look at a wide range of areas from micro and macro economics to break even and profit and loss statements, from corporate social responsibility to government intervention to reduce the effects of market failure. On completing the course students have a sound knowledge of the workings of the economy and the decisions companies need to make to survive and flourish.

The course uses a wide range of resources including DVDs, textbooks, the Internet, Podcasts and other sources of information. The course content requires extensive use of the internet, where there is a wide range of educational sites as well as the ability to track contemporary business and economic issues.

We have been on a number of school trips over the last few years which have included visiting Washington, DC and Eurodisney.
